      <description>3M Company and Michigan International Speedway (MIS) announced that 3M will be the title sponsor of the June 18 &quot;3M Performance 400&quot; Nextel Cup Series race at MIS. This year will mark the first of three years of 3M sponsorship of Nextel Cup races at MIS. In addition to its title sponsorship of the 3M Performance 400, 3M is the primary sponsor of Busch Series driver Todd Kluever who will pilot the #06 3M Ford Fusion throughout the 2006 season for Roush Racing.       <description>Michigan International Speedway -- home of the state's largest single-day, paid-admission sporting events since 1992 -- is a track rich in racing tradition. 

Groundbreaking took place on Sept. 28, 1967. More than 2.5 million yards of dirt were moved to form the D-shaped oval. Charles Moneypenny, who had designed the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway, designed the Michigan oval.
